The place

On the river, in the Flats

The Saunagoose sits on the Cuyahoga's West Bank, with downtown Cleveland at our back. A four-season city deserves a four-season experience, and a riverfront coming back to life deserves something worth returning for. That's what we're building.

The founders

It started in Copenhagen

Dan and Femke Michaels got hooked on sauna culture while living in Copenhagen — weekly Saunagus sessions, a sauna on their houseboat, the rhythm of hot and cold. They came home to Cleveland missing it. Dan's brother Bill and friend Tom Kelly didn't need convincing. Three cofounders, one sauna obsession, one piece of Cleveland waterfront. We're building what we always wished was here.

Questions

The first things people ask

When are you opening?

Late summer or early fall 2026. Subscribers hear before anyone else.

Where exactly are you?

1840 Carter Road, Cleveland, OH — on the West Bank of the Flats, on the Cuyahoga, with downtown Cleveland behind us.

What's the experience?

A large communal sauna, private wood-fired and electric saunas, wood-fired hot tubs, cold plunges, and guided Saunagus sessions. All outdoors. All year.

What's a Saunagus?

A guided sauna session. A trained practitioner waves towels of scented steam over the room in a choreographed ritual. Intense, communal, unforgettable.

Will you be open in winter?

Especially winter. A 40-degree Cleveland day with wind and rain is when this concept is at its best — you warm up in steam, plunge into the cold, and the weather becomes part of the ritual. We're built for the season everyone else avoids.

Do I need to be a member?

No. Day passes and private bookings will be available. Members get unlimited community sessions, first access, and other member-only perks — full benefits release this summer.

Is The Saunagoose accessible?

Yes. The Saunagoose is ADA-accessible throughout. If you have specific needs, reach out and we'll help you plan your visit.

What should I bring?

Bring two towels — one to sit on and one to dry off. If you forget, towels are available to rent on site.

What else is on site?

Bathrooms, changing rooms, outdoor rinse showers, a café, fire pits, covered seating, and on-site parking. Food trucks rotate in on event days.
